Education Act 2011

The Education Act received Royal Assent on 15th November 2011. The Act takes forward legislative proposals in the Schools White Paper, The Importance of Teaching, and other measures. The Act gives teachers the power to search pupils for items that are bannedunder school rules and issue same-day detentions. Better protection for teachers from false allegations will be provided. Exclusion panels will be replaced by review panels. which will not have the power to force a school to reinstate an excluded pupil. The Act will focus school inspections on four core areas - achievement, teaching, leadership and management, and behaviour and safety. This new inspection regime is already being implemented by OfSted. The Act will also give parents of disadvantaged two-year-olds a right to fifteen hours of free Early Years Provision a week.
